What Is Fetch Rewards?
The Fetch Rewards app is a free mobile rewards app that pays users for uploading their receipts. Fetch Rewards is available on both Android and IOS devices. Fetch Rewards also has a 4.5 star rating with more than 370,000 ratings.
According to a study conducted by Forrester, 72% of U.S. adults belong to at least one loyalty program. Additionally, loyalty program members spend an average of $42.33 more with traditional retailers than non-loyalty members within a three month period. It’s clear that loyalty programs and rebate apps are here to stay, and there is plenty of opportunity to save more money as a consumer than ever before.
Now, there are some significant differences between Fetch Rewards and other popular receipt scanning apps like Ibotta or Checkout 51. Our Fetch Rewards review is going to break down exactly how you can save money with Fetch Rewards, as well as the main differences to know about this app.

How Does Fetch Rewards Work?
The Fetch Rewards app works in three simple steps:
- Scan Receipts – upload receipts from wherever you shop.
- Earn Points – earn points for 1000’s of different products when they appear on your receipt.
- Get Rewards – redeem Fetch Reward points for free gift cards to dozens of partners.
It’s that simple.
Most receipt scanning apps require users to purchase products from specific stores, such as Walmart or other major retailers. However, the Fetch Rewards app doesn’t care about your store of choice as long as eligible products are on your receipt.
Currently, Fetch Rewards partners with well over a hundred brands. You can view the complete list of Fetch Reward brands on their website, but chances are, your brand of choice is listed.
Do you buy products from any of these brands? Here are some notable Fetch Rewards partners:
- Betty Crocker
- Nature Valley
Fetch Rewards also partners with dozens of snack, beverage, alcohol, and household goods brands as well.
Shopping for products from partnered brands is the main way to make money with Fetch Rewards. Anytime you upload a receipt with products from partnered brands, you earn points.
However, there are also three other ways to make money with Fetch Rewards that are worth mentioning.
Take Advantage of Special Offers
The Fetch Rewards app also partners with specific brands to offer limited-time, special offers that reward users with more points than regular receipts. Users can view their current special offers by using the ‘Discover’ tab in the Fetch Rewards app.
While this is a less reliable way to earn Fetch Rewards points than just buying products from partnered brands, the payouts can be higher. It’s worth checking the Discover tab before heading out on any shopping trip in case an item you occasionally buy is listed.
Refer New Users
Many reward apps offer referral programs. However, the Fetch Rewards referral program is actually pretty decent compared to many other receipt scanning apps.
If you refer someone to Fetch Rewards with your unique referral code, you each earn 2,000 bonus points ($2 value) when they upload their first receipt. Granted, this bonus won’t break the bank, but it is a free and simple way to get your friends or family involved and to make some quick cash.
And remember, the first time you sign up be sure to use the Fetch Rewards referral code of 2NC99 to get your initial bonus. From there you’ll get your own code to refer friends (and you both will receive a bonus when they sign up).
Enter Sweepstakes & Contests
Fetch Rewards runs a mixture of sweepstakes and contests throughout the year that award prepaid visa gift cards to winners (typically in the $500-$1,000 range). One of the most popular contests is the Fetch Rewards Max Points Challenge.
Max Points challenges reward users who upload receipts with the highest total point amount. Usually, the top five players earn $500, the next twenty earn $50, and dozens of random users are awarded with $20 in Fetch Rewards points.
While you’ll need a hefty receipt to make it to the top five, making it the top twenty five isn’t out of the question. Plus, there’s always the random chance of winning bonus Fetch Rewards points.
How Much Can You Earn With Fetch Rewards?
Using Fetch Rewards will not make you rich. However, it is possible to cut down on your grocery bill every single month with this money saving app, so you might as well take advantage of the free money!
Each time you upload a receipt to Fetch Rewards that includes a product from a partnered brand or a special offer, you earn points. You have to upload receipts within 14 days of purchase. 3,000 points ($3) is the minimum cashout threshold, so the question is, how fast can you actually earn Fetch Rewards points?
As a general rule of thumb, your receipt uploads pay anywhere from $0.25 to $2-$3 depending on the items you purchase. You are guaranteed at least 25 points per eligible receipt, which is higher than many other receipt scanning apps that we have tried.
The discrepancy in reward points is largely due to the fact that special offers pay much more than regular receipts. Additionally, various categories such as alcohol or home goods often pay more than cheaper products like snack foods.
According to various Reddit threads, other users earn similar amounts of points for uploading their receipts:
You can download the Fetch Rewards app to see what offers are currently available in your area. However, if you’re responsible for grocery shopping and purchase just a few products from Fetch Reward partners, it isn’t unrealistic to earn an extra $50-$100 a year just by using this app.
Fetch Rewards – Options & Cashing Out
As mentioned, you need at least 3,000 points to cash out on Fetch Rewards. However, there are plenty of options to choose from, and payouts happen incredibly quickly since everything is electronic.
The Fetch Rewards Options page breaks down all of the current gift cards that are available. Some of the most notable gift card options include:
- Old Navy.
- Bed Bath & Beyond.
- Prepaid visa gift cards.
- Apple and Google Play credit.
- Burger King.
- Dunkin’ Donuts.
- Taco Bell.
As you can see, Fetch Rewards offers a diverse range of reward categories, and I barely scratched the surface. There are dozens of more options, and you can also redeem your points to support several charities as well.
Fetch Rewards – FAQs:
There are plenty of other receipt scanning apps out there. However, Fetch Rewards has a few quirks, and there are also several commonly asked questions about this genre of reward app that are worth covering.
Do Non-Grocery Receipts Work With Fetch Rewards?
My favorite aspect of Fetch Rewards is that it’s the brands that matter, not the store or location. Grocery stores are the easiest way to earn Fetch Rewards points. However, the following stores also work, provided your receipts include products from partnered brands or special offers:
- Local grocery stores.
- Liquor stores.
- Convenience stores.
- Gas stations.
- Pet stores.
- Hardware stores.
- Big box and club membership stores (such as Costco).
Where Is Fetch Rewards Available?
Currently Fetch Rewards is available in the United States on both Android and IOS devices.
Is There A Maximum Number Of Receipts I Can Upload?
According to Fetch Reward’s Terms of Service, you may upload a maximum of 14 receipts in any 7 day period. Receipts from stores located outside the United States are not accepted.
How Long Will My Points Take To Appear?
Uploaded receipts typically process within a few hours.
Why Aren’t My Points Appearing? My Receipt Is Eligible!
Users can edit their receipts if there is a points discrepancy, and this is the fastest way to secure missing points. According to Fetch Reward’s FAQ, users can submit a receipt review request in 7 quick steps:
- Select the Activity tab at the bottom of the application
- Scroll sideways through recent receipts at the top and select the receipt in question.
- Scroll down to “Correct my Receipt.”
- Select the item to correct, or tap on “+ Add an item that was missed.”
- Select or add the correct item and press “Change Item.”
- Adjust the quantity and price for the item. If the exact item can not be found, please use the generic brand associated with the item.
- Once you have made all corrections, click “Yes, Submit” and it will be reviewed quickly. We also gave you the option to scan the barcode when correcting a receipt.
This must be done within 3 days of receipt upload. Corrections are approved or denied within 24 hours.
Do Fetch Rewards Points Expire?
Points expire on accounts that are not active for 90 days. Accounts are considered active if they upload a receipt.
Fetch Rewards vs Ibotta
Ibotta is one of the most popular receipt scanning apps, so it’s only natural to compare both apps in our Fetch Rewards review.
Now, the main thing to note is that you can upload receipts to both apps and double-dip on rewards. There’s truly no harm in downloading both apps and testing what works best for your area.
However, if you just have time for one rewards app, here are the main differences to know:
|Ease of Use||Upload any eligible receipt to earn points||Requires barcode scanning for many offers|
|Available Stores||Relies on brands, not stores||Extensive list of partnered stores|
|Earning Potential & Special Offers||Guaranteed minimum of $0.25 for eligible receipts, decent special offers||More special offers at a given time, and higher paying ones|
|Welcome Bonus||$2 bonus for first receipt upload||$5-$20 signup bonuses depending on ongoing promotions.|
|Minimum Cashout Amount||$3||$20|
Ibotta is higher paying than Fetch Rewards if you consider special offers. However, unless you can signup for Ibotta during a peak promotional period and earn at least $10 for signing up, we believe Fetch Rewards wins out.
The low cashout threshold and guaranteed $0.25 for eligible receipts means you can actually benefit from using Fetch Rewards. In contrast, making it to a $20 cashout threshold without any signup bonus is a tall order, even for savvy shoppers.
Ultimately, there is no harm in using both money saving apps to cut down on your grocery bill. However, if you just have room for one receipt scanning app in your life, go with Fetch Rewards.
FetchPay – An New Way To Earn More Rewards
Fetch Rewards started testing a new feature in Beta a few months ago called FetchPay. Essentially, FetchPay allows users to earn more points when they purchase gift cards at specific partnered retailers.
Getting started with FetchPay is simple:
- Connect your payment info – Fetch is partnered with many major banks and is working on adding more in the upcoming months.
- Shop for gift cards – Buy gift cards from dozens of retailers and restaurants.
- Earn points – Receive a percentage of your purchase back in the form of Fetch Points.
Gift cards have a $10 minimum and $500 maximum to be eligible for FetchPay rewards. Additionally, you need to setup a pin for FetchPay, and the app is also secure.
Note: FetchPay is not available for every user at this time.
Fetch Rewards Review – A Slow & Steady Way To Save Money In 2020
At the end of the day, a cash back program or receipt scanning app is never going to make you rich. However, that isn’t the point of apps like Fetch Rewards.
Companies are willing to pay loyal consumers for their patronage. If you already shop at some of the dozens of Fetch Rewards partners, it makes zero sense to leave free money on table. After all, Fetch Rewards makes uploading a receipt incredibly simple. Plus, a guaranteed payout amount of $0.25 per eligible receipt means you can at least earn something for a few seconds of work.
With a low cashout threshold, a strong mix of partners, and a wide range of gift card rewards, there is no reason not to try Fetch Rewards. We recommend double-dipping on rewards on using other receipt scanning apps like Ibotta to maximize your earnings. However, if you can only pick one app, Fetch Rewards is the way to go.
